America's Army is seeking to build a bulletproof vest by spider's web genetically engineered. According to ISNA, quoted by Gizmo do, America's Army previously had set $ 131,006fprize for any company that can do this. Kraig Biocraft Company won this tender and it is going to design special spider silk vest by genetically engineered for America's Army. This company is aiming to examine the resistance of this vest when it covered. According to John Rice, the chief operating officer of this company, they are looking for to make a cover that is very high in terms of quality and efficiency and can be present in first rank of coatings. If everything goes as planned and the effectiveness of this material is proved, this contract will be expanded to 1.3 million dollars. However, it should be noted that the strength of a spider web covers is only two-thirds of those vests that are made by Kevlar material. Kevlar material is very thick and is only able to cover the upper part of the body. The make of spider body armor not only make easier the motion of body, but also has this ability to protect from all parts of the body. Extraordinary strength of spider silks has been attracted to the scientists for long time. Spider silk is five times strengthen than steel with the same diameter. This material is resistant to damage and is stretch up to 40% without damaging aspect ratio. Researchers previously had inspired of it to create fluid lines that can be used in heart transplantation. Scientists are faced with major problems in producing the spider silk, for example, spider bite can be dangerous to humans and is deadly so spiders breeding farms and production of spider silk are very difficult. This has caused to scientists explore ways to produce artificial spider silk in the laboratory tests.
